Cananea is an old-school cantina illusion. So convincing you’ll hear someone slurring you know this is the oldest bar in the area by midnight, despite opening last year.
Aesthetically: stained glass, Budweiser pool table lamps, oak slats, beat-up chairs and wonky stairs. But what really sells it as a preserved heritage bar revival is the mix of sticker sleeve guys and kitten heeled girls racking up pool balls next to corrido members (bolos still on) nursing beers after their set.
Classic cantina bar snacks (peanuts, chili-dusted cucumbers, carne seca, birria tacos). But instead of just cold beer and well tequila, it’s stiff martinis and mezcal spritzes.
