The Paris outpost of Melbourne archive dot COMME. They have acquired over 4,000 pieces of Comme des Garçons. In September, they put 265 pieces up for auction at Kerry Taylor Auctions in London to fund a bigger Melbourne shop and the archive’s move to Paris. The most expensive, a jacket pleated into floral forms and a bulbous skirt from Body Meets Dress (Lumps and Bumps) SS1997, sold for £11,000 (estimated at £800–1,200). The shop has lent pieces to the National Gallery of Victoria, most recently for ‘Westwood | Kawakubo’ (2025); the museum holds Australia’s largest public collection of Comme des Garçons.

Owner Otto La Rosa told Wallpaper that he spends 70% of his waking hours thinking about Comme. He opened the Paris shop the evening of the Comme des Garçons Homme Plus show. To him, the brand embodies “the absolute freedom to dress however you want.” The shop’s Instagram has posts of him eating a cookie in a feathered hat and a 2003 Yohji Yamamoto pinstripe blazer, him pinching the giant ammonite atop the storefront in a Comme 2024 Back to Front suit that’s covered in dolphins and palm trees, and a reel of him camouflaged in a garden, wearing the opening look from Comme’s SS2019 show, which was a khaki bushman-like suit.

The week the Met opened ‘Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between’ in 2017, he posted that Kawakubo had just bowed to him.
