Roman Grandinetti and Pinto Cattington insist that Mxdin (short for Mixed Ingredients) is a functional cafe, not a wellness one, echoing Bryan Johnson, Andrew Huberman, and Clavicular. Grandinetti is called the "mayor of Orchard Street" due to Mxdin and Regina's Grocery being two blocks apart. Like many of the F&B owners who came up during the Butter era and sneaker culture, he's built a place for their friends to now hold court on crates and talk to much younger girls. while Cattington was featured in the SS26 campaign for Title of Work, the jewelry label at 57 Orchard.
They've found a workaround for the TikTok fears that matcha causes anemia, liver damage, and kidney stones by making drinks with red (and seasonally yellow) watermelon for vitamin C to counteract the tannins and catechins that inhibit non-heme iron absorption, and coconut water for hydration. In the summer of 2025, Devon Lee Carlson posted a Watermelon Matcha on her story; ten months later, her collaboration with Madhappy's coffee shop Pantry was a matcha with coconut water, watermelon syrup, and sweet cloud.
Cattington, who is almost always the one behind the counter and lauded for his knowledge of tea, likes making the matcha in an ice-filled cocktail shaker rather than a traditional bamboo whisk, as ice breaks up the clumps, builds a good microfoam, and keeps the drink cold. It also keeps turnover fast.
